The Halo universe is full of mysteries and unanswered questions, and one of those is: why is Cortana naked while she can don any cloth she wish? And why is she the only nude AI in the whole universe? Turns out, 343 Studios has a pretty serious explanation.
GamesRadar asked those questions to franchise director Frank O'Connor and he clarified that "[Cortana] is not really nude … but that's what it makes you think of."
"So one of the reasons she [chooses to appear without clothes] is to attract and demand attention. And she does it to put people off so that they're on their guard when talking to her and she has the upper hand in those conversations."
"It's kind of almost like the opposite of that nightmare you have where you go to school in the nude," said O'Connor. "You're terrified and embarrassed and she's kind of projecting that back out to her audience and winning intellectual points as a result."
In case you didn't smell the bullshit, O'Connor admitted in another Twitch livestream that this whole explanation was "backed into" the fiction to justify Cortana's attire years after it made its first appearance in Halo: Combat Evolved.
As far as we are concerned, Cortana was carefully designed to provide its macho Master Chief with a sexy sidekick without breaking the 15+ age rating. Nonetheless, we are really curious to hear 343 Studios explain why Cortana's breasts and hips continue to grow bustier with each new Halo game.
