Breath of the Wild emulation is getting better and better

The emulated Wii U port of Nintendo's newly released Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is coming on apace. Despite being the early days of its development, the people working on bringing it to the PC have made huge progress since their original unveiling and the game is looking more playable than ever.

In the above video we can see that the game is running at around 30 frames per second, with only the occasional bit of slowdown at specific times - the Wii U version suffers from the odd slowdown though, so that's not the biggest issue in the world.

Some of the game's physics is coming together too. Grass can be brushed through and interacted with, as well as cut and Link can now swim in water, where once he would have just fallen through.

As PCGamer reports, a few rune abilities now work, including Stasis and Magnesis. It's not clear how much work it will take to get the other abilities working, but no doubt the developers of the CEMU emulator are working on it. Indeed they plan on releasing this version of the emulator, v 1.7.4, to Patreon supporters on April 2, and the general public on April 9.

There is obviously still a lot more work to do, but the game is coming together well and the CEMU developers are doing a hell of a job of the port.
