Description XR7: EarthStrike is a traditional shoot-em-up arcade game (with 5 fun levels) written in Visual C++ with DirectX 9 (but also compiles with v8).
The game depicts three classic gaming styles: Galaxian, horizontal scrolling and vertical scrolling. The game was not written to reflect, in any manner, the state-of-the-art in gaming but rather to demonstrate a complete game built with C++ and DirectX that could be understood by those who are new to game development.
Demonstrated in the game is the use of 3D models rendered on the fly; use of particle systems; a simple DirectX-based GUI; data file parsing; elementary bytecode generation; sprite rendering and other fundamentals of multimedia programming.
