Description
Twelve months in the making and Solar Kingdom has now been released. You can at long last fly around the solar system, in full 3D. View Io in its volcanic splendour or watch star occulations behind Saturn's rings as the planet moves out of view.
All these and much, much more are possible in full 24-bit colour with eye popping 3D and high frame rates.
And then... when you have found your object of interest a button press brings up the integrated encyclopedia. Every planet and moon has its own entry. Over 200 pages and 500 images make Solar Kingdom a unique product. If you like astronomy you will love Solar Kingdom.
Some of the softwares unique features are:
Full simulation of all the planets and moons. Their positions are modeled accurately and their appearance matches the NASA simulator (check the links below). The simulator is accurate enough to model the solar eclipse in 1999. The graphics in Solar Kingdom are significantly better than the NASA simulator (and interactive).
The user has full control of the camera's position allowing 'quake like' camera control.
Simulator has over 300,000 accurately positioned stars and can show all constellation figures. Full control over the flow of time. Time can be run at almost any rate, even backwards! Camera has full pan, tilt, roll, zoom and velocity properties.
Integrated planetarium that can be configured to any place on Earth and runs in parallel with the simulator. Interactive overhead map of the solar system. Telescope view of Jupiter showing the position of the four Galilean moons. This also runs in parallel with simulator. All objects are rendered in 3D using high resolution texturing. 3D hardware acceleration can be used if available. Simulator frame rate in excess of 30 fps on a PII-350 with Voodoo 3 and using high-resolution textures.
