It is now official; Intel's Core 2 Duo range of processors is now shipping. A total of 10 new processors will be released; the Core 2 Extreme X6800; the Core 2 Duo desktop processors: E6700, E6600, E6400 and E6300 and the Core 2 Duo mobile processors T7600, T7400, T7200, T5600 and T5500.

According to Intel all models are now being shipped while availability for desktop processors is expected in early August with the mobile chips becoming available closer to the end of next month.

The announcement by Intel marks the release of the most highly acclaimed processor for a long while now, as online and offline reviewers have heaped praise on the performance of these chips. Thanks to Intel's announcement we now also have confirmation on some pricing for these processors. The Extreme desktop chip will sell for USD 999, as previously announced. The Core 2 Duo series will sell for: E6700 - USD 530, E6600 - USD 316, E6400 - USD 224 and E6300 - USD 183. These prices are for quantities of 1,000 processors so you can expect retail prices to be anything from 5 to 20 per cent over those mentioned here.

If you are considering upgrading your PC these are exciting times but bear in mind that Intel's Quad-Core chips are coming in Q4, 2006. Find out more by reading the MegaGames Intel Quad-Core coverage.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

From what I have read this new chip is gonna be a tought one to beat... seems to be kickin amd's ass at each turn, saying that amd have just bought ati and I'm sure that together they can get some kick ass chip out, or maybe their quad core is gonna be better then intels... we'll have to wait and see I guess

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Whats the big deal honestly? Lets say people tend to buy it to use on a Windows o/s. They'll find hardly any improvement and as for quad, god only knows if it'll be optimized this year for use on xp/vista.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Wtf? Aint this old? Didnt they ship a while ago? =D

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

No, that was an older chip model, the intel core duo, where this is the core 2 duo.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

The news of coreduo 2 is old, but i don't think it has shipped to stores untill now, so us "normal" people can get it.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

even though this chip does beat DAMMIT( AMD ). I think its just because its the newest one on market. Lets be realistic, AMD flagships dont lose all that much, what 20% max? And they are 90nm vs 65nm of intel and also have 2x less transistors... In summary simply newer technology. Not to be fanboish though they are the best out there especially for the price... however somehow I do not think it is wise to update any hardware before VISTA

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Yep I have to admit I'd wait for Vista before I get the FistaaD.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Prices have dropped 50% on AM2's... nice!

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

wtf, have i just gone through a time warp or is MG late with the news again? These were available 2 weeks ago !

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Yeah they did ship 2 weeks ago and were available, to anyone in the uk anyways. The lowest model sold out nearly straight away in 1 store i know.

Anonymousat 22:50 27/7/2006 Actually in alot of cases it's almost 30-40%

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Oh yes as if most people would be paying so much money for a new processor...

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

$183 is not much...

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Although this is fairly impressive (even if it is Intel), just wait untill AMD fixes AM2. Then the tables will dramaticly turn.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

so, i wonder which side your a fanboy of ?

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

By the time am2 is out conroe will prob be pushing 4ghz on air seeing as it runs so cool.I dont see why it wouldnt seeing my old P4 3ghz is at 3.7ghz on air and runs nice n cool with decent hs and 2500 rpm fan

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Only nerdy fanboys would pay those prices for such a short-life processor.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

anyone who gets 6600+ will be among the top cats for a year so I wouldnt really call it short, especially for few hundred bucks. I do wonder what happens with quad core

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Anon @ 19:55 is trying to say, that he's is 'Mr Nerdy Fanboy' himself. Now STFU tard.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Long story shortAMD can do better with a lower price

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

AMD can do better with Torrenza. Suggest you check it out. Might explain the reasoning behind the recent merger.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Grasping...straws

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Lets see can anyone of you afford it?? Or even afford the cheapest one?? Probably, but most likely you can't buy Intels top notch one anyways, so why care, i don't have an FX 62 AMD processor i had a 3500+ n guess what, that runs every damn thing i throw out it perfectly... So who gives a sh*t unless u can afford the best.. Yeah ahhaha..

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

Vanniat 20:9...where HAVE you been this last month?"Lets see if anyone can afford it?"...They are less than half the price of the amd cpus and amd had to cut prices drastically!Dude you really have your finger on the pulse eh? lol

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

I guess i do.. ^_^. Did not know they are that cheap.. better look on newegg again mmmm.. Very true the price a 3500+ dropped $120 bucks. Well given if u say is true, then i will look into that.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

K8L quad > core 2 quadcore 2 quad = 2 x core 2 duo's stuck together. that's all. I've been following AMD's developments for K8L. they're not fúcking around.

Intel's Athlon Killers Have Arrived

yeah yeah yeah running a core2duo E6300 1.86ghz @ 3.5 GHZ ( 500 FSB aka the holy grail * 7 ) and a total of 2000 FSB!! ( quad pumped fsb ) This beast can go up to 4GHZ or more but would probably need better cooling. Take it easy fellas.
