A new Bioshock game is coming... but not until 2022

It's been six years since we last explored a brand new Bioshock game. Columbia was in the clouds, but it was the quintessential Bioshock experience, with an out-of-this world city to explore with unique, augmented inhabitants and a society that's collapsing around you, no thanks to your presence there. But Bioshock Infinite isn't destined to be the last Bioshock game. In fact, a new game in the series has been in the works for years. After a couple of reboots, though, it's finally been announced.

Bioshock Parskide, as it's currently codenamed, has been under development since at least 2015, but it isn't expected to debut until 2021 or 2022, due to the lengthy development plans for it. Iit's currently being worked on by Cloud Chamber, a new studio headed by Kelley Gilmore, who previously worked on 2K's XCOM and at Civ studio Firaxis.

"We founded Cloud Chamber to create yet-to-be-discovered worlds - and their stories within - that push the boundaries of what is possible in the video game medium," Gilmore said, via Eurogamer. "Our team believes in the beauty and strength of diversity, in both the makeup of the studio and the nature of its thinking.

"We are a deeply experienced group of game makers, including many responsible for BioShock's principal creation, advancement and longstanding notoriety, and honoured to be part of the 2K family as stewards of this iconic franchise."

No details about the next Bioshock have been revealed just yet, but considering the genre-defining nature of the predecessors visuals, storytelling, and unique combat mechanics, it should be something quite special.
