"On the shelf its prevalent a 3 to 1 ratio when it come to PS2 to Xbox games."The amount of games a system has does not equate to quality. This is clearly seen with the PS1 and PS2. Both those consoles had the largest libary. However, the vast majority of those games are shovelware. Sony has such weak content controls on what is allowed to run on it's hardware. They are the total opposite of Nintendo. Nintendo controls too much and that has screwed them. Sony needs to find a balance between the two. I find that so many second rate developers create games for Sony because of the vast user base. Those software companies are almost guareenteed to sell it's 2nd rate titles to a few 60 million plus PS2 owners. It's easier for a business to sell in a large market place compared to a small one. The PS2 is a decent console, however, for me, i like quality in my games. I am tired of GTA:3 rehases on the PS2 in every incarnation. I't almost pathetic to see so many copycat, 2nd rate companies making games like those for the PS2. Are those the only games played on the PS2 worth buying? Because the other top teir games are released cross platform and those games always play better on the XBOX or GameCube because of their hardware...Thats my rant.......

Generally , its all about the games. PS2 may have had a lead on release but look at it way more games than Xbox. Most of Xbox's library were ports from PC and PS2. It's the games not the hardware. On the shelf its prevalent a 3 to 1 ratio when it come to PS2 to Xbox games. You can have the best hardware but without developer backing its just a oversized pretty paper weight. Sony has built strong relationships with several developers and still holds strong ties. M$oft is still trying to gain some real backing after screwing several developers over time and time again. Better hardware means nothing without the games to back it up. Also the big issue with backwards compatibility that they still don't have ready yet. Some ppl are reserving the X360 but it should be compared to the PS3 reserve list.Yes,ppl are reserving the PS3 now because some were not able to purchase a PSP on release. I know in some areas it was still available but not here for miles around. I hope the rumors are true that ppl will recieve promos like the PSP release. As for hardware, the console sells at a loss, break even at the store. Its all about insurance plans, accessories and games to turn a profit.

One of the nice things about consoles is that everyone's on the same level as far as framerate and such goes. Nobody's got the 'uber' console that's giving them 150fps at all times.Also, hacking, although it still does exist, is at a greatly reduced level.

Everyone saying PCs are more powerful than these new consoles
and of course they arebut i hope those people who say that ACTUALLY HAVE A POWERFUL PC, they not just comparing it to PCs on magazines or what they've heard or seen. theres probably like a a dude here that has a geforce MX 440 64mg and 2.4 and 40 gig etc etc hahaa These are powerful to those computers who play all the latest games but on medium settings that experience occasional lag

The XBOX 2 will probaply have better graphics than pc games for 1 year after it is released, but after that the graphics cards will have become much cheaper and PC will have better graphics dan XBOX 2!

if you say the xbox360next2* will have the new radeon r500 core...etc.. do you know how much the card will cost around (~$500-$600)...you know how much a dual g5(equivalent) costs...do the math and you tell me that the next xbox is gonna give you all of that for just under $300...or even $500 bucks...unless bill gates is trying to kill the xbox off i doubt its going to be cheap...and if they do have that and the price is over $1,000+ i suggest you get a pc...look at the entire modern console games...all pc rip offs...*cough cough...HALO...might as well get the real thing and get a pc..

The thinking behind MS releasing the XBOX2 this is early is to get a jump on the PS3. MS does not want to repeat the same thing with the XBOX coming out later then the PS2. This is mainly the reason the PS2 sold more units. It was out first before all the other consoles. They had no competion for almost 2 years...minus the Dreamcast. As for safe hardware...the PS2 has had plenty of issues breaking down. I myself returned my PS2 console twice.
MS in my opinion is making the right decision here. They are being majorily aggressive. This is the only way to deal with SONY. Nintendo needs to follow suit if they want to survive.

"jump starts" or "technological advantages" have nothing to do with console sales. its all about knowing u r getting something safe(literally, look at the Xbox blowing up)and u have to have faith in the company releasing the hardware. over the many years Sony have destroyed so many rivals and surely gained the rep as "THE BEST CONSOLE MAKERS" in many ways, i agree. although now, with Sony getting bigger and more international and getting sued for $1.8Million and losing the case ALSO PSP seen as the "kiddy" of the handheld, they have lost respect from many customers.
Sony have made all those mistakes listed above meanwhile Microsoft started out as being the under-dog of console warfare but now EVERY decision they made turned out to be the best one. That is why Microsoft is so big and if Sony doesn get their act together by 2006. Surely Microsoft can and will take over the rep as "BEST CONSOLE" which is all u need really, this way all the developers make games for u.
one mistake u might say MS did is releasing Xbox2(Xbox 360..wotever) way too early. now with HL2 confirmed for late summer release(Xbox) and Xbox2 expected to come out on November, it is in my opinion way too soon to release Xbox2. after all, xbox only has been an "AMAZING" console for the last few months, and im sure customers want more for their money before dishing out to buy Xbox 2.

What do you mean by 'no lag'?
Because with my PC rig right now, i can run all my games with zero frame rate lags. Not one. I just bought last month a XT800PE by Sapphire. I am running every game i own at 1600x1200 resolution with AA and FSAA on. Solid frame rates above 60. I know for a fact you get lag when running games on a PS2, GameCube, and even the XBOX when many object enter the screen at the same time. Time Splitters for example for the PS2 and MaxPayne, MaxPayne2 and Red Faction
to name just a few games have major frame rate lags. So what do you mean by lag?
As for controls. It depends what game you're playing. All 1st and 3rd person shooters play infinately better with keyboard and mouse setup. Faster response time all around. Greater mobility. As for gamepads...Something many console users do not know. PC's have more gamepad options then any console. Why? Because ANY company can make gamepad controllers for the PC. They DO NOT NEED TO GET A LICENSE FROM PC MAKERS OR PERMISSION TO DO SO. So the market is flooded with gamepads. Unlike consoles, companies that make 3rd party controllers, MUST get this approved license. This is why consoles have limited choice in this area as a few companies make 3rd party controllers for them.I use the cordless Logitech wingman with rumble feature. Dual shock bottoms just like the PS2. Offhand there are at least15 companies that make controllers for the PC. From mini-1st person shooter keyboard types, to full size steering wheel and foot-pedal setups.....

That GPU for the XBOX2 will be using a 256bit memory interface (256bit)instead of the 128bit interface used now for the PS2 and the GameCube and the Xbox. The Xbox2 GPU will have 24-32 pipelines like it's PC brother. 24 pipes more then likely for cost reasons. Your information is incorrect. Games should look exactly the same on consoles when the new ones come out until ATI and Nvidia release their next generation chipset with a larger memory interface. (512bit) And more pipelines. The reason the xbox and PS2 and GameCube do not have graphic capabilities of a PC now, is a result of memory allocation and limited bandwidth(associated with a 128bit memory interface) and pipelines their custom GPU's use. This time around until Mid 2006 The new consoles will have the same amount of memory interface and close amount of pipelines. Core and memory clock speeds will be a little lower, however we all know, at least some know that core clock and memory clock speeds do not always determine how fast a card can render 3d animation and graphics. The 9700 and 9800 series proved this against the 5800 and 5900. Also, the 6800 and the X800 proves this also. It's all in the macarhitecture and bandwidth capabilites. "PS3 will rock, Xbox 2 sounds crap tbh." I have heard this all before. All PS2 owners and their mothers said the XBOX would fail and be crap. Or it sounded like crap before it was released. And we fast forward to now and see that hardware wise and stability wise, the XBOX is superior to the PS2 in everyway. I believe the only reason the PS2 sold more untis then the XBOX was because the PS2 was released almost 2 years ahead of the XBOX. Nice jump start for sales if you ask

the thing about console games compared to PC games are..... much more reliable, no lag at all(major thing why i prefer console games), better controls,and generally more relaxing. as TT said consoles are 'specifically' made for games, if you dont like it F*** offF*** the hardware all we need is playable game PC's are only made for FPS and RTS games. PS3 will rock, Xbox 2 sounds crap tbh.

okay....consoles do not over power PC's...and sony sold more because it was already released right when xbox was about to be announced...and at that time technology was cosidered to be the ps2 graphics, unfortunately that didn't las too long...and don't be fooled by figures you have heard about on paper, just remember how the ps2's 150+ million polygons were shrunk to 75 million when it was released...i highly doubt the ps3 or any of them are gonna be $300 bucks if they do manage to give you dual g5 equivalent processors that do your dishes, homework, etc...i used to be a console over pc anyday guy, until i got myself a nice pc...i immediately sold my ps2, xbox, and gamecube...it is a huge waste of money...just go out and buy your self a decent custom pc(not that shit you see sitting down at best buy) and see the difference...for about 1.5k you can build yourself a monster with a 6800 equivalent, 1gig ram, 64 bit processor(believe me when i say this...a dual g5 sucks balls at games, just look at the doom3 pc benchmarks for proof)...and a radeon 9800pro graphics card that the xbox360next2 is supposed to have(that is old...you are getting last gen technology so i don't see how next gen consoles are gonna look better)...playstation3, well just take what sony tells you on paper and take the cube root and divide it by 373,486, and you should get the exact specs the ps3 will have when it is out...as for nintendo (grow up) people dont want to play mario every damn time ...it gets old after a while, all they have is zelda and that is it...

This is why they have no real OS to hamper CPU, and GPU calculations. No worries of virues.....(this will change however, that next generation consoles will be truely internet ready with basic forms of OS for downloading games and fixes and patches etc..)
Now the difference this time around, and the trend started with the DreamCast system, these next generation consoles are starting to be equipped with the very same high-end GPU seen in current PC rigs. Of course those GPU's become outdated after the classic 6 month refresh GPU cycle ATI, Nvidia likes to screw us with, however, for example, the XBOX2 will have the R500 chip inside. So the XBOX 2 Will be faster then most high-end PC's when it's released. Remember, consoles do not have to worry too much about multi-tasking calculations as the PC. However, like i said previously, because Sony and MS want their next generation consoles to be more like SETUP BOXTOP multi-media units, some issues that plagued the PC for gaming stability might crop up with the next generation consoles....Minus the Nintendo next generation console. They still want to leave their consoles strictly for gaming. And that i have to agree by. If i want multi-media internet all-in-one solution. I use my PC......
The difference now being, consoles will have the same GPU's as current PC's for the time being.

One of the most interesting things about this coming wave of consoles (all of them, not just the XBox), is that they will finally be more specialized gaming machines than PC's.Finally, consoles will be able to do things that computers cannot. And to anyone who thinks that the hardware is so important, please explain to me why the PS2 sold so much more than the technologically superior XBox and Gamecube? Hopefully the XBox 360'll have some more RPG's.

Circ 2005, and we see this to be so far from the truth. Infact, the XBOX is 2nd in this competive console race. Quite a feat when you think this is their first run in the console business and the other companies have been at this "game" for years. Nintendo for decades. Sega for almost as long. And we all know where they are on the hardware scene.
MS has the financial backing and revenues to see the success of the XBOX2 and any other future components well into the future. Make no mistake, Sony knows this. MS does not give up without a major fight. And the technology behind the XBOX2 is quite close to that of the PS3...considering the multi-CPU setup is also made by IBM.
IBM is liking this. All 3 companies are using IBM Cell type processors. The real difference will be in the GPU. Time will tell.....

This game has over 1Tera computing power, Physix chip + ATIs newest Fudo which is supposeably 3x faster than 800-850XT series. To your knowledge PS3 has near same computing power, it can increase it ofcource, but lets just see WHICH WILL BE CHEAPER! PS. 12th may should also mean that ati will present R520 to PC soon.

why is there a guy crying about consoles getting more game coverage?I think its because PC games are getting outnumbered by the 3 consoles and 2 handhelds available right now.... PC gaming is an expensive business, too expensive for people with mortgages and bills to worry about, time to take a closer look at the consoles i think!
