An amazing game, complimented by its incredible assortment of mods following the Make Something Unreal competition. 2. Half-Life 2. A beatiful engine (except for the fire, which sucked), and an all around incredible game. 3. Far Cry. For whatever reason, I actually enjoyed this more than half-life 2. 4. Rome Total War. Four player LAN games of this ate a good part of the semester, and it was well worth it. A lot of fun, but the graphics weren't too hot. I guess that's the price you pay for having 10,000 units on the screen at one time. 5. Chronicles of Ridd**k - Escape from Butcher Bay. This game was quite an experience, especially for something that I really had no expectations from. Yeah, I'm a fps fan. D3 was a brainless shooter with as much atmosphere as a wrestlers boxer shorts (only the boxer shorts are probably a lot scarier). One of the main reasons why....many older teens and adults play it because you get to create your own custom stuff (that looks as good as the developers or better)walls, floors etc and thats something i dont think a 12 year old can do properly, making it of high quality and looking real. Its got endless gameplay...therefore creating endless stories and everything is interactive plus future expansions to change gameplay and the way you create your endless story. HL 2, Far Cry and RTS's, the best games in my opinion are the ones that lasts long, your able to play it over and over again without getting bored at all or quickly is the best game regardless of genre and The Sims 2 offers that, HL 2 was amazing but as soon as i finished and played some stages again for about a week, i deleted it. It's the same game, ryear after year, after release. The only people who praise this game as the beat are 12 year old fanboys who squeal about the naughty content in the game and the Mature rating it gets. Give it up. The game needs to be reworked from the ground up for it to be any good in it's next incarnation. But it won't. Great pixel shading and shadow effects. That's it. HL2 visuals and Physics engine are superior. Seems to me that it looks like more upcoming games will be using the Source engine over the Doom3 engine this time around by looking at the game rlease calender. I hate to say this but i am a self condessed pc ganming elitist. and neither of these games deserve to be on a top 10 games of the year. Heres Why. First of all halo one and two no matter how you look at it are utterly average games. Stand them next to any game of the same genre on the pc and they dont even come close to being as great as so many people make them out to be. Now im not saying they are bad games. I myself enjoyed both games, however when it comes to the genre of fps they are without a doubt average. I dont blame it on the game developers though. Given a decent platform to work with perhaps they could have come up with something a little better. The fact is that fps games on todays consoles will never be as good as their pc counterparts, because of the restrictions on them. There are dozens of average games this year for pc that are more deserving of a place on a top 10 list that halo 2. Now san andreas. thats just sad. THe gta series, although it doesnt suffer the same problems as fps games do on consoles, this doesnt save it from being recycled bollocks. The gta series hit its peak with GTA 2. Gta 3 was good, vice city was average, san andreas is just plain iritating. Has anyone else here seen the police academy movies? thats what its turning into. Anyone who votes for either of these games as there number one really need to look around a bit more, instead of playing the game they got for their 14th birthday, coming online and saying its the best thing ever, because it really really isnt. Just like street fighter is never as good on pc as it is in the arcades, fps games will never be good games when made for a console. and just like spielburg and lucas should have let indy die with last crusade. rockstar should let the gta series die with dignity. Both are awesome! I prefer FPS's myself, and although HL2 was a bit of a letdown it should at least make it on the list. Overall last year I saw a huge decline in gameplay quality across the board in favor of graphics that will force a lot of gamers to upgrade. What gamers really want is gameplay!
