Sonic Forces gameplay trailer keeps the hedgehog moving forward

Following on from a rather seriously toned trailer for upcoming Sonic game, Sonic Forces, from mid-2016, we now have our first bit of gameplay from the upcoming Sonic title. Unlike Sonic Mania, the recently delayed, return to classic Sonic gameplay with its 2D art style and mechanics, Sonic Forces is very much a 3D, forward running experience, complete with explosions, lasers and death at every turn.

The game looks absolutely fantastic - it's safe to say that it's the best looking Sonic game ever made, with detailed shading, particle effects and an enormous draw distance for the level as Sonic sprints through it. He's doing so at very high speed too, which is something that makes the game much more of a visual treat, but does require real dexterity to stay alive.

In the original trailer for the game, released back in July 2016, we were shown the same robotic apocalypse setting, though Sonic wasn't alone. Much like the reasonably well received, Sonic Generations from 2011, Sonic Forces features both current-generation Sonic and his predecessor from the Megadrive era, who was a little shorter and thicker around the midsection.

They'll team up in Sonic Forces as part of the resistance, though it's not clear in what capacity. The game is slated for a release during the holiday of 2017.
